The Orlando, Florida area of Dr. Phillips, received its name from Doctor Phillip Phillips, who was at one time, the world’s largest citrus grower. The area was made up of thousands of acres of orange, grapefruit, and tangerine groves. In the 1940’s, Phillips hired a planner to create a community in the area for people and workers to live. Phillips sold his citrus holdings to a commercial partnership in which included Minute Maid, in 1954. After Walt Disney announced his plans for the Walt Disney World Resort, the original community plan was revised, and in 1969, Dr. Phillips became the first master-planned community in Central Florida.
