Exploring Seven Orlando Area Trails

Milder temperatures and lower humidity mean one thing - getting out and about in central Florida's rich tapestry of natural beauty. Bikers, hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike have an amazing opportunity to explore Orlando's unique natural charm.

  1. West Orange Trail - One of Central Florida's most popular trails is the West Orange Trail. Stretching across 22 miles, this trail is a biker's dream for those seeking a blend of nature and history. The trail winds through the picturesque landscapes of southwest Orlando, providing glimpses of lush greenery, serene lakes, and historic landmarks. Several stations are dotted along the route, including the Killarney Station in Oakland, which ends just north of the Apopka Station at Welch Road.

  2. The nearby Lake Apopka Loop Trail meanders alongside north Lake Apopka, showcasing the area's natural beauty. With its well-maintained paths and scenic views, the trail is perfect for a stroll or a peaceful bike ride surrounded by Florida's flora and fauna.
Did you know? Funding was recently approved for the Lake Apopka Connector Trail Project, which, once completed, will connect the Lake Apopka Loop Trail to the West Orange Trail.

  3. The 3-mile-long Orlando Urban Trail is perfect for those who crave an urban escape without leaving the city. This trail seamlessly integrates with the cityscape, providing a unique opportunity to explore Orlando's urban core while enjoying the outdoors around six lakes and several parks and gardens.

  4. Cady Way Trail links Orlando and Winter Park across 7 miles, connecting with the Cross Seminole Trail. Several parks and stations offer respite with benches, picnic areas, and restrooms along the way. Take note of any improvement projects that may provide a detour for those utilizing the trail.

  5. Venture into Seminole County and discover the Cross Seminole Trail. This trail spans 23 miles, weaving through suburban landscapes and natural reserves, meeting the Seminole Wekiva Trail at the pedestrian bridge in Lake Mary.

  6. Outdoors lovers will appreciate the 14-mile Seminole Wekiva Trail, part of the Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail. As you explore this paved trail, you'll encounter both residential and semi-rural areas. Don't miss the Paint the Trail Art project by Jeff Sonksen along the trail near E.E. Williamson Road. Over 500 paintings line the fence alongside the trail.

  7. Tucked along Clermont's rolling hills is the South Lake Trail, making it the perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. This trail begins east of Lake Minneola and continues on toward Oakland, connecting to the West Orange Trail. To its west, check out the bonus Lake Minneola Scenic Trail, which hugs alongside the south side of Lake Minneola and just moments from downtown Clermont.

BONUS: A new trail system has been announced with collaboration between local business and organizations in the Packing District, connecting the district to sites along Edgewood Drive and Lake Ivanhoe and beyond. In addition, many of the trail alignments are slated to be created along unused rail routes originally used for industrial purposes.

Orlando's trail network is a testament to the area's commitment to providing diverse outdoor experiences for its residents and visitors. Whether you're seeking exploration, historical immersion, or a peaceful encounter with nature, these trails offer something for everyone. Embark on a journey through the enchanting trails of the Orlando area – where adventure and serenity coexist in harmony.
