The charming and intimate community of Gotha is located West of downtown Orlando between Ocoee and Windermere. An Old Florida feel resonates throughout Gotha, thanks to the rich history and well-preserved downtown area brimming with culture and historic architecture. For a walk down memory lane, the Palm Cottage Gardens is a must-see. The one-time home of Dr. Henry Nehrling is now an educational center and botanical garden used to educate visitors about horticulture, environmental conservation, and historic preservation. Other sights include the Gotha Post Office, and the Zion Lutheran Church, founded in 1915. A one-room schoolhouse has been transformed into the Gotha Community Center, which today is used as a meeting ground for residents. The community center offers a diverse selection of activities, including yoga classes. Grab a bite to eat at the eclectic, pet-friendly Yellow Dog Eats, housed in the historic Fishers County Store. Venture to nearby Winter Garden or Ocoee for a variety of modern-day conveniences, including big-name retailers, popular restaurants, and exciting entertainment.

The quiet community of Gotha lets residents enjoy a welcome escape from the busyness of big cities. Yet, the ideal location means easy access to all that Central Florida has to offer.

GOTHA'S HISTORY
Gotha’s rich history stems back to 1885 when a German immigrant H.A. Hempel bought 1000 acres. Hempel named the town after his birthplace, Gotha, Germany. Recognizing the appeal of the beautiful subtropical climate and mild winters, Hempel mailed flyers to northern cities in Europe advertising Gotha. Through the years, several German families moved to the area. Today, Gotha’s main street is named in honor of its founder, Hempel.
